DVI adapter question |
|
|
I feel like such a noob for asking this. I have an MSI 6800 GT that I have
had connected to my LCD via VGA cable. In light of recent threads on the
topic I dug out my DVI adapter and hooked it in, but when I plug the monitor
into it I get nothing. And, God help me, I cannot find where it says to use
the digital out in the software. I have no manual, got lost in the last
move. Thank the Lord I don't do this for a living, I'd starve.
Thanks, Rod |

Ok, it's official. I am a noob of the first order. Simple reboot was all |
that was required. Jeez, all that education too. |

If I interpreted your question correctly, you are still using the VGA port,
but then added the DVI adapter and connected your LCD via a DVI cable. Why
would you do such a thing? It's still an analog signal. :-)
The only way to get a digital signal is to connect the DVI cable directly to
the card's DVI port.

Actually, I think what he did was to attach the DVI->VGA adaptor, and |
connect the monitor to that - don't think there's such a thing as an adaptor
which plugs into a VGA port to convert to digital? Anyway, as you say, he's
still using an analogue signal, so has achieved nothing at all.

Steve. |

Nope, other way around...connected the adapter to the VGA cable, and plugged |
it in to the DVI port. Just needed to reboot at that point. :-) |
