SCSI drives that only operate within temperature limits ? |
|
|
Hi group. This is a mobile application that will see very cold
temperatures ( < 0 degrees Celsius ). I am in the market for a drive
that will only operate if it is within the limits of operating
temperature. Can anybody suggest models ? Perhaps there are cases,
enclosures that achieve the same result by sending SCSI "Start Motor"
command on bus when case, enclosure sensor is within operating range ?

How about putting a temperature sensor on the power supply? |

Hi Jeremy. This application will utilize a removeable drive tray that |
can be easily installed in multiple environments. With the power supply
fixed in a given location, the scenario where power supply is outside of
temperature limits, but drive is within will exist.

If you have to ask here you should probably hand your assignment back.

Hitachi Endurastar series drives... Made exactly for such harsh
enviroments... They're 2.5" with 20/30GB capacity... 4200rpm rotational

Devices also have limits on the temperature slope. If you come from a
very low temperate and just crossed 0 degrees at the sensor some
internals may still be too cold, and the rapid warmup as the drive
operates causes problems from thermal expansion. Manufacturers
typically spec acclimatization times if a device has been outside its
operating temperature range. Also don't forget condensation. |
