Yeah fair enough, its just that my Isp's news server has recently
crashed and only has posts from a few days back. What I could find
in the newsgroup didn't specifically give me a good comparison
between the Geforce 4 Ti's and the newer cards.
In the end I did find a comparison on Toms Hardware and the
sweetspot to me looked like the 6800 - dramatically better fps over
the Ti's and not in the second hand car price range.

This question was asked yesterday and just about every day before
that. Read some of the other threads on the subject for some great
advice. --

I just located a guy here locally that can get me a retail eVGA 6800
Ultra for $540 cash. With only a 2 to 3 day wait. Trucks down from
Dallas. I know the card should retail for $499.99....but....try
getting one without getting on a waiting list.
McG.
It's a sad state of affairs when one has to deal with the video card
black market. "Pssst... hey buddie. I can get you what ever you
want. Crack, Smack, or how about a deal on a 6800 Ultra."
The marketing departments of both Nvidia and ATI need to be fired.

Perhaps the demand is really way ahead of production. ?? It's a big
world and if there are 20 million of us waiting in line for the biggest
baddest vid cards then I can see there being a little wait. Black
Market eh? Ha! Nah, this guy is one of the best independant 'clone
shops' in town. There were three of us that scoured the Houston area
looking for an 6800 Ultra (with all the right stuff) for any price.
These cards are simply scarce and people are on waiting lists
everywhere. My guy is paying the whole saler what they put on his
invoice, and that was $499.99 last week for the eVGA 6800 Ultra. The
AMD FX53 was $899 and the gigabyte mobo for it was $129. I think that
the folks at ATI and nVidia like reading stuff like this. Their backlog
is very good. I am sure they've 'paced' production. They won't build
more factories unless they're running 24-7-365 and getting further
behind :) If they think multimillion dollar facilities are gonna sit
idle for long periods, they ain't gonna do that.
Sorry, just rambling on, just woke up and all that, and am enjoying the
games running butter smooth with just a plain eVGA 6800 :o) <merry
christmas TO me....>
Merry Christmas everyone!
