6800LE Locking XP in 3D Games. |
|
|
A friend at work just bought a new 6800LE AGP card, Installed it in his
Asus A7N8X-X with a nForce2 chipset. The card runs fine in Windows, but
as soon as anything 3D related is started, it locks ther system solid.
Does not matter which game (tried Doom3 UT2004 and some others).
I got the latest NVidia driver down, also the latest nforce chipset
driver, and also updated the motherboard BIOS to the latest, but it made
no difference.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Faulty card??
Incompatability???

Dunno, it's a generic PSU in a generic case. Could this be the culprit.
Any idea how much current a 6800LE requires?

A good quality 300W will be enough for an LE.

Stay away from 6800LE. Almost all are faulty, at least MSI and Gainward have
more than 80% failures (try google).

Have done a google search, and got a mixed mag of results. Do you have
a specific link that states the >80% failure rate (which seems VERY high).

If it has a generic PSU, then that's probably the problem, or at least a problem.
Generic PSU's are such crap!
Get a quality (heavy) name brand unit.

I personally use an Antec 430 Truepower even though the previous Aopen 300W |
was coping. |
