FX5600128mb Or Radeon 9600Pro 256mb?? |
|
|
Ok Guys out there
Here is my question, I have a Windows xp pro machine 2 gig at the mo and
768mb ddr ram with a Geforce FX5600 128mb video card in it, my friend has
offered me cheaply a Radeon 9600pro 256mb video card and I am not sure which
one to keep in my machine.
My son wants abetter card than his TI 64mb card so what advice have you or
is there any sites out there that compare video card to each other
cheers Dave |

The 9600 Pro is definitely faster. |

Hi all, I've read this with great interest as I am looking to update my
graphics card and was going to buy a 5700LE
There is a Sapphire Radeon 9600XT which is in my local shop and is in
my budget (about £120), but can anyone tell me is there a much
difference between the Pro and the XT? Please be gentle lads, I'm no
techie! lol

The 9600XT is faster than the 9600pro because of higher clock rates.

9600 Pro definitely. They were FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR
(enough?) faster and more suited to mid range machines than the 5600
(which I might add is a pile of dog flop roasted on a NYC sidewalk).
The 5700U gives the 9600P a good run for its money, but moreso the
5900XT. That'll beat it pretty much always.
Get the 9600 Pro, give the kid the 5600 (it'll be enough of an upgrade
for a while), then after Christmas when Newegg restocks all their video
cards, get him something nice.
[Edit: I just noted how I logically equated a hand-me-down for your son
with a pile of dog flop... um, damn... you're gonna have to spin that
one, sorry.] |

I dunno.... if the ti is a ti4, I wouldn't change it... get the 9600pro
for yourself and scrap the 5600... I have a 9800xt (just bought it, damn
good card), and my other rig has a ti4600. Both rigs run doom3 half life
2 and such, althought the 9800 has lots more eye candy!
