I thought so too. Everest shows mine as GDDR3 as well.

Do all the 6800's come with DDR3? I thought only the GT and Ultra did.

It is software.

Theses are my results from Everest Home Edition:

GPU Clock 351 MHz
RAMDAC Clock 400 MHz
Pixel Pipelines 16
Pixel Shaders 1 (v3.0)
Vertex Shaders 6 (v3.0)

I have the BFG 6800 OC

This is simply a soft registry edit? or is it actually flashing the
vga bios each operation? Anyway, I tried the RivaTuner approach,
and while it does come back after reboot and say that 16x1p and 5v
are the expected, Everest Home 1.51 says it's still 12.
Perhaps I'd have done better reading up on it a little first :) I
may have missed some important steps.

I think the 3DMark scores won't tell me much about that. Hm. I have
Everest and RivaTuner, these two are considered accurate by the
community. Sorry, just musing. This card is an eVGA item, never had
one before this week. This card actually clocks slower than the
FX5900-128 (PNY) I have. Somewhere down the road, I hope the 6800Ultras
actually become available IN the stores. As it is, everything with 16
pixel pipes has a long waiting list :( This IS a good card tho. Plays
HL2 great.

This is Riva Tuner 1.32; it won't enable the section without first
installing its driver :) I ran it, installed the driver, rebooted. Ran
RT, went to NVStrap, then enabled pp and vp, left open, rebooted. Comes
back up, ran RT, check NVStrap, it said 16x1, 6vp with 128MB DDR.
Nothing else did though. I am running it again but this time, install
driver then reboot before I touch anything else. Be right back :)
Also, I'm running the latest driver from Nvidias sitt, 67.02 and
RivaTuner gives an unsupported driver version warning when it opens.

The process of doing this 'soft mod' is simple enough. Yes, I did (you
have to or everything else is ghosted out) install the 'driver' first.
That appears to be an automatic selection RivaTuner makes. On opening
RT, in the card selection thing, the info right below it says 12x1p,5v
Then I go check low level system settings, it still shows the target
being 16x1,6v. I look in Customize, that shows the items are still
checked as I left them, but are still disabled and hardware masked.
Will any of the report help?

I'm thinking now this card isn't soft-moddable?

I notice that Everest shows the memory bus type as DDR3, but not the ram
type. RT shows DDR, 256 bit bus. So neither of them shows complete
info :)

Not everyone is successful with the mod. I guess I was lucky and you were
not.Depends on the card. I have seen some posts in forums that some of the
cards have defects and that's why they won't mod.

Maybe someone else will post here with more suggestions.

I think you're right. There would be a batch of GPU's doped that won't
pass GT tests and go as OC's or plain 6800. that batch might well
unmask and run fine at the lower clocks. Next batch might actually have
a physical fault that keeps the unit from working, masked or not. It's
like back when the Celly 300A's came out. Most of the ones from a
particular plant would run just fine at 100/450. So, we just can't know
for sure till we try, right? No harm done, I wasn't expecting TO do the
softmod with this card. Just ran into this thread and thought I'd
give it a whirl :) there were two of the same card in the store, I'd
bet the other one is exactly like this one.
I'll end up getting the 6800 GT or Ultra later, that's for sure. It'll
just have to wait until early '05 is all :)
Thanks for the input, it was a good plan! And this card isn't bad, it's
just not going to get any better.

Merry Christmas!

McG.
