problem with screen resolution in games |
|
|
System is AMD64, 1gig ddr400, ATI 9800 Pro, 19inch
generic AOC monitor, WinXP Pro, SP2, Catalyst 4.8
My desktop resolution is 1024 x 768, and I have installed
Far Cry, CoD, and CoD:UO expansion pack. I also have
installed an older game, Syberia which I had not started
up until last night. The other games were installed with
internal settings 1024 x 768, but Syberia has to run at
800 x 600 with no options to change it as far as I know.
Also I had been running Syberia with no problems at all
on my older system with ATI 9600xt as well as Far
Cry and CoD. Anyhow, when I started Syberia, the
screen looked narrow and weird. I shut it down, and
started Cod:UO, and even though the internal settings
were 1024, I could tell that the game was running at
what looked like 800 x 600 .. at least there was a 1 inch
black border all around the screen. I got a hint that the
problem might be the game default settings with vertical
set to 60hz might be the problem, so I looked all over
the Catalyst driver screen, and finally found a MONITOR
setting to OVERRIDE REFRESH, and set it to the
desktop setting of 75hz. That seemed to work. At least
I now have full screen in CoD:UO, and it looks normal
or possibly even better than it was ?? But in Far Cry,
I still think the ingame setting might be a bit different than
1024. It is full screen alright, but the image looks bigger
and more like 800 x 600. Is there another setting that
enforces ingame 1024 x768 ... and is it possible to
create custom settings for each game? I know that Syberia is going to squawk
about 75hz. I have not tried
that yet. Enough sweat and frustration for one day.
