I have strabismus and nystagmus, and a visual accuity of about 20/50 with
a few oddities in my vision system (it's hard to me to recognize things "out
of the corner of my eye"- my eye literally starts jumping around in a quick
pendular motion, so I have to turn my head to see well). Binocular vision
for me is not constant, yet it is something I need to work on, because when
I see binocularly my nystagmus is reduced (nystagmus reduces visual acuity).
I am working on finally getting my drivers license if possible (I currently
do alot of walking to the bus stop, and I don't have much of a social life
at all because everything is further away), and I'm getting some special
prismatic lenses made so that I can see as well as possible. With the
prismatic lenses in place, this will be a crutch and allow me to develope a
more balanced binocular vision system and strengthen the muscles that hold
the eyes together. The "hybrid" system I have now is my left eye is
somewhat amblyopic except for reading, and my right eye is poor at reading
but good at distance.

My optometrist recommended that I try playing videogames using a cyan-red
or green-red pair of lenses and the inverse color filters applied to the
screen. The results would block part of the screen unless I look at the
screen with both eyes binocularly, otherwise half the screen will be very
dark. The only problem- he had no idea where to get the products... so he
gave me some homework- find a way to do it on the internet.

I found a website selling clip-on 3D glasses that would work, so I bought
some. Now all I need are filters that could be applied to the monitor- the
left cyan (blue) and the right red. And I got to thinking, ATI's
Smartshader effects do similar things, although they are mostly totally
useless and just for grins and nobody uses them much (except it is
interesting to play Call of Duty in Black and White or sepia), so that would
be a simpler way to do it for the games. The only problem is- I don't know
how to write the Smartshader effects.

3D stereoscopic gaming glasses would also work, but they'd some of the
negative reinforcement if I only looked with one eye.
