Dual monitor support |

I have two flat panel monitors with DVI/TV input (Dell 1703FP).
I am thinking of getting a graphic card with dual DVI connectors in
stead of DVI/TV. What is actual advantage of having digital connection
instead of analog? Can you recommend a card with dual digital outputs
that costs about $100? |

I was able to answer part of my question by myself by reading the
expanations on:
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041129/index.html
It appears not many cards come with 2X DVI outputs. Do you know some? |

Have a look at the Matrox G- and P- series (top most link)
http://www.matrox.com/mga/products/comp_chart/
Dual DVI comes standard with the P650, or you could go for the cheaper
Millennium G550 Dual-DVI (you might find that for about $100, or you could
try to find a used card). Apart from 3D (too slow by today's standards),
Matrox cards are the best in image quality and dualhead features IMO.

by google search, I am leaning toward a p-750.
One thing I noticed was Matrox cards tend to have smaller memory
sizes. For example, the Matrox Millennium P750 comes with 64 MB DDR
memory. Most of ATI-based cards come with 125 or 250 MB.
What is the significance of the memory size? |

you need plenty of video card memory for 3D really, matrox tend to be made
for 2D applications, like video editing and such, and multi monitor setups
and such
my pc has triple head output, basicly an ati 9800 pro and a 4 meg matrox pci
card, i use 1 output on ati, and the matrox for windows stuff, and the tv
out on ati for watching movies on tv, so i can watch movies and still work
on whatever i'm working on at same time, dvi over normal analgoue dvi is a
bvit overhyped i suppose, i would get a dvi setup if i could, but i wouldn't
be killing myself to do it |

I'm not an expert, but let's just say it's of less significance compared to
other videocard specs, like memory and engine clock speed, or the card's
specific features. Maybe someone who's a bit more knowledgeable on the
subject would care to comment? I wouldn't worry about it too much, is all I
can tell you.

The extra memory is for storing textures in 3D games.
What's the native resolution of your TFT monitors? Not all DVI ports are
created equal. On dual-DVI cards, sometimes the max resolution supported is
different for the two ports. Sometimes they top out at 1280x1024.
