What memory to use? |
|
|
Hello There:
I am enjoying putting a computer together and facing the
challenges, here is my question:
I just got PCCHIPS "M851G V1.5" motherboard w/a 462 socket, an AMD CPU
2200+266 ATHLON XP and two modules of memory of Viking DDRAM 256 mb 32 X 64
(PC2100).
In the website where I got the motherboard it says that the motherboard
supports DDR 333/266 Max 2GB Ram, but in the manual says it supports DDR
400/333 memory.
I haven't been able to make it work, the fan runs but I get nothing in the
screen, since PC2100 would be for a 266 Ram, would I need a different
memory to make it work?
Thank you in advance.

Such differences between what manufacturers say on their website
and what they say in a manual are usually because they have upgraded
their product and neglected to update the information in either
website or manual.

No. You may have to set your BIOS to the correct memory speed (and
you may not have to - the BIOS will probably detect the type of memory
you're using unless you've manually changed the setting). Even if it
supports DDR 400/333, it will also support DDR266.
The failure to start is probably due to a faulty piece of hardware,
improper installation or wrong BIOS setting. |
