Has anyone actually used the Hitachi 4GB microdrive to record movies at
640x480 30FPS fine mode on the Canon S1 IS? Is it supposed to work?
The Si IS manual (p. 53) says no CF larger than 1 GB,and may need faster
CF...Hitachi website for 3K4 states it is compatible...

Any actual experiences.

Manual says only that you can't shoot movies larger than 1G in one piece.
Then you must cut and start a movie again. That's because file system in S1
doesn't allow files larger than 1G to exist. If you have 4G or 8G drive, you
can have 4 or 8 movies, 1G long each.

Another question is if drive is fast enough...this can be easily tested -
just shoot until camera stops - either after 1G is recorded or earlier - in
that case time counter is colored red to indicate that buffer is full...but
i think it shouldn't be any problem. I think that required speed is about
12x.
