The apps that come with the camera are all Windows apps. Is there any chance
that I can download images from this USB camera with a Mac-compatible app?

Googling Mac and Fjui and 5000s turned up little useful info.

Thanks,

Please, no "Go Google this" replies. I wouldn't
ask a question here if I hadn't done that already.

Thanks,

I have a Fuji S602.
Just plugged it into the USB port and iPhoto opens up and gives me the
option of importing the images.

As long as the camera talks to the Mac as a USB Mass Storage device, it

should just work. No drivers necessary.

Go to the Fuji Web site and download the FinePix Viewer application for the
Mac. I have it and works perfectly.

Sure. That's what iPhoto is for.

I have a FujiFilm FinePix 3800. I just plug it in to my Mac and iPhoto
pops up and allows me to import images.

I don't see why the 5000 should be any different.

Hope this helps to answer your question.

My Fuji camera works fine as a USB storage device without adding any
software to the Mac. Just plug the camera into the Mac with USB (OS X
10.3.6 here, but I've done the same with earlier versions).

I believe the default is that iPhoto will open and offer to manage the
process for you. I turned this off... I want to manage the copying
process in the Finder.

Just open a finder window after plugging in and turning on the camera.
You'll see the camera as a USB Storage device. Click on it, drill down
a couple of folders, and you can then drag and drop image files to copy
them to your hard disk. Then click the eject-triangle to dismount the
camera.

As a precaution, I do not use the Mac to delete images in the camera; I
use the controls on the camera to delete the image files after copying
to my mac.
