Anyone have experience with the new Epson 4180 Flatbed scanner? What
resolution is best for:
Negatives?
Slides?
Prints?

Also, the supplied software is user stupid and not well thought out.
Anyone using other software? If so how does it work when you invoke
scanning from other applications like Photoshop or word?

Yes, when you first see Epson Software, it looks stupid.

If you will get into Professional Mode, you will find that the Epson
software is not so stupid.

How to switch modes.

All I use is professional mode. Being a software designer and
programmer, I know it is not only stupid but poorly designed and not
user anticipatory.

Then you might want to look at Vuescan or Silverfast (SE or Ai).

I haven't seen any answers to the part of measekite's question about what's
the best resolution for negs, slides and prints -- and I have the same
question. Particularly when it comes to slides and negs -- the image is so
small to begin with (35mm) that it'll have to be enlarged to print. If I
want to make a 4x6 print of a slide, it seems there are a couple of ways to
go. First is saving it to the "target size" -- 4x6 -- instead of to the
original. But I'm not sure what rez to use to make a high quality print (not
for Web use). Any suggestions?
