Dimage Scane Dual IV Batch annoyance |

I just bought the Dimage Dual IV for scanning in hundreds of negatives.
My negatives, as I would assume most other peoples, are cut in groups
of 4 frames. The holder can accomodate up to 6 frames. In batch mode, I
can not find a way to tell the scanner to omit the last two frames.
This takes more time, and screws up the automatic sequential numbering.
The work around is to use the custom wizard in the dual 4 utility
program, but it takes more operator input.
Any suggestions, ideas?

Vuescan will allow you to specify a "list" of frames to scan, for
example:
1-4
With Minolta software, just hang around while it's previewing, and hit
"cancel" immediately after frame four appears. Then, click frame one,
<shift> click frame four (to select 1 thru 4), and click the "scan"
icon. |

Hello,
Easy enough. :::
- Open the Custom Wizard window
- press Next
- choose Frame Number Select
- and select the numbers you want to scan
After finishing the scans, this setting remains in action, and if you
whish you can change them before the next batch.
In the Manual look for "Custom Wizard". It's all there!

Do not use DiMAGE Scan Dual4 - Easy Scan Utility. (you have no control) |
Use the DiMAGE Scan Dual4 Utility or TWAIN interface with an image editor.
After Index scan, (index scan will alway index all frames). To select just
the frames you want to final scan, hold Ctrl and Click the frames you want
to scan. Or Click first frame and hold Shift and click the last frame you
want to select.
You can select one to six frames. They do not have to be consecutive.
Control-A will select all.

You could cut some of the groups of 4 into groups of two (they've have
allready been cut anyway), and fit them with a group of four in the 6-frame
holder.

I don't like the sound of the suggestion from Paul, this would mean that he |
would have to cut every second strip into 2 in order to keep the numbering
sequential.
I do hope that I am not the only person whose negs are stored in strips of
6.
This dates from the "Olden Days", when I did my own processing. The Storage
Sheets for Neg Binders all came with space for 6 negs per strip, and they
still do. And the Contact Printing Frames were also designed for strips of
6. If I had been using 4 neg strips, I would have needed to buy a lot more
Storage Sheets and Binders, and would not have been able to get 36 negs
contacted onto a 10 x 8 Sheet of paper.
I was very glad I had done this, when I switched from a Nikon Scanner, (no
holder needed), to a Minolta.
Nowadays, when I am getting films developed, (that's right - I did say
Films), I just tell them that I want them back uncut, and they seem quite
happy to do so.
It does not solve your current problem, but it might help someone to avoid
this in the future.

You are not.
A lot of my film is in strips of 6 frames. The film that I processed is.
The film is also stored in special plastic sheets with 6 frame slots. Asking
for uncut film processing is a very good suggestion.
