monitor plugged into the power outlet of the power supply |

Hi, I have a monitor that is plugged into the power outlet of the
power supply in the back of my pc, the plug is a male connector with 3
prong. Can I plug it into the wall outlet using a special adapter?
The reason why is that I want to uses this monitor with a new PC
but this one doesnt have a power outlet for the monitor.
If I cant plug it into the wall, can I use the power supply in my old
pc just to power the monitor up not anything else. Will that
be wasting energy given the fact that the power supply consumes 250W
instead of just power up the monitor which consumes about 90 W?

YOu can plug the monitor into the wall outlet without any problem with an
adaptor plug. A power cable for the computers may fit the plug from the
monitor .
The power supply from the old computer will only switch on the AC to the
monitor. The other part of the power supply will not start up and may give
problems. The total wattage of a power supply only means how much it can
put out, not what it is using. Sort of like a 12 volt car battery. It can
put out over 100 amps but if you hook a radio to it that only takes 3 amps
that is all it will put out to that device. You can hook up several devices
(mother board, hard drive, CD drive) to the power supply as long as they do
not add up to 250 watts. The power the monitor uses is not counted in this
as it just hooks up to the 120 volts AC inside the supply and all the power
supply is doing for the monitor is acting as an on/off switch.
YOu can even cut off the plug on the monitor and use a standard wall plug.
Just be sure to get the connect wires connected to the correct pins on the
wall plug. |

Just found out that my power cord other's end recptable fits perfectly
into the male connector of my monitor power cord. I m not sure if I
can use it as the power adapter to the wall for my monitor? if it gets
blown up??

Yes, you can use the cord from the old system to power just
the monitor. It will not waste energy, the power for the
monitor is not a part of the power supply's 250W rating.
Using the old cord for the monitor is exactly what you need
to do, is what everyone else would too since there are very,
very few power supplies sold today that have the rear
monitor outlet anymore. |
