It's a very helpful improvement.

Thanks, Ed!

Does 8.1.14 also have problem with raw files, like 8.1.13 did?

I don't think so. A quick look at the 'what's new' list shows that in
the htm of the latest version Ed even left out the "Save scanner
make, model, and transparency mode in raw scan files" for the 8.1.13
version! So I take it that the EXIF editing has gone away...

I was wrong! The raw problem is still there. So is the EXIF editing.

Indeed, but.... there are some issues with this release.

The white histogram is back! :-)

After the installation, even a manual load of a stored set of
options does not restore the same configuration. ICC color
profile and its directory are lost.

Input|Media is preset strangely. On my W2000 machine I got
one of the Canon scanners, and on my WinME machine this was
the "transparency."

If you adjust your options to your liking (e.g. the Color
panel) and realize than Input|Media was wrong and change it,
you are up a surprise: all already changed options "jump
back" to the set of default options. Among them is our
old foe the "white point=1%," a warranty that a scan has
to be repeated.

Also, we have still the problem with Vuescan ignoring
c:\vuescan\vuescan.ini after installation and creating
a rouge vuescn.ini file. This file is now under
./My Documents/My Pictures/vuescan.ini

c:\>find . -name "vuescan.*" -print
./WINDOWS/vuescan.log
./WINDOWS/vuescan.ini
./WINDOWS/Recent/VUESCAN.lnk
./WINDOWS/APPLOG/VUESCAN.LGC
./My Documents/My Pictures/vuescan.ini

This *.ini issue is with us for such a long time,
I can't believe it! :-) Why not to code the path
simply in the vuescan and use it?

c:\>strings c:\vuescan\vuescan.exe

shows that such strings are indeed contained inside
of the binary:

[...
%Borland C++ - Copyright 1999 Inprise Corporation
wxSpinButton
wxSpinCtrl
2.5.1 (no debug,ANSI,wx containers,compatible with 2.4)
your program
shfolder.dll
SHGetFolderPathA
c:\vuescan
/install
vuescan.ini
....]

I suppose you wrote all this directly to Ed too. He is not reading here

He is not? I was not writing to Ed recently.

I have the problem with 8.1.15 (Minolta Multi Pro).

No - he couldn't stand the continuous flow of insults and insinuations
posted by Don and Hecate. Don and Hecate are still here, but Ed has
gone: http://tinyurl.com/3tnw7.

When writing to Ed, I recommend including a request for receipt
confirmation in your message text (I don't mean the electronic receipt
confirmation that can be activated in your e-mail client).

Too bad this group is not moderated. Those newsgroup bullies should have

been kicked a long time ago.

Correction: The only insults came from Ed.

Neither Hecate nor Don ever used obscenities. Ed did.

The reason he (allegedly) quit is because he was frustrated with his
own programming ineptness. The only "continuous flow" was that of
VueScan bugs. (Today's) Case in point:

With this version, a saved raw file seems not to work for
scan-from-disk. Tried restarting Vuescan a few times, no luck. Also,
other previously created raw files in same directory work ok.
Anyone have similar experience?

Same problem here. VueScan 8.1.15 & Minolta Multi Pro. When trying to scan
from disk, VueScan sees the raw file as 1x1 pixels, 200dpi and 0MB, although
the file actually is over 200MB and I can read it with other programs.

According to you, this bug (like all the others) is Hecate's and Don's
fault.

By the same token, are you now also going to accuse Mendel and Jouko
of "insulting" Ed?

Don.
