I acquired an Emachine IS600 and have no clue to the previous owner
password... i cant even get into safe mode ...
How does one reset passwords or eliminate them with out knowing what was
on the computer?
I found a jumper that was labeled reset pass word but it doesnt seem to
have any effect.
thanks in advance ... by way is there any thing specific i should know
about memory as it only has 32 megs right now

Do you mean the windows password, or a password to start the computer (asks
for password when you turn it on) ?

It's SDRAM (PC100/PC133), and supports up to 256MB, so buy either 2x 128MB
modules or 1 x 256MB module.

If it cmos password. Unplug the cmos battery for most of the day.

Careful not to break the motherboard. Some batteries are hard to
remove. Remember, which way the battery goes in.

If it is not use the emachine restore cd. Skip the registration part.
Since the warranty does not apply to you.

I would still use the restore cd. Regardless. You have no idea what
is on the computer.

Good advice, and to forstall the next probable question... here is how he
can get a restore CD if one didn't come with the machine:
=====================================================================
For replacement Restore CDs contact one of our Customer Care
representatives.

eMachines Customer Care representatives are available 6:00 am to 10:00 pm
(PST) seven days a week:

United States 1-801-401-1419*
Canada 1-604-637-1419*
