yes, start out with a budget and an idea how much some extra
eye-candy and high resolutions are worth to you.
If you want a bare minimum, others have noted that it plays
pretty well on a Geforce 4 MX (non-integrated, AGP card),
Geforce 3, etc. Thre's little point to those but it shows
that in particular HL2 will scale a lot based on the card
used.

List your entire system and your budget, and you will get much better
advice.
