Acer TM 8003 vs ASUS M6N 6842 |
|
|
Hi,
I am about to pick up the replacement for my (currently dying) ancient Dell.
I was browsing many sites, read (too) many review and I am almost carteing
one of the those be my next toy: Acer TM 8002CLI or Asus M6N 6842 The price
is almost the same (+/- $100) while acer seems to be featured a little bit
richer, (incl. Bluetooth, which I finally convinced myself may be much
more useful than dvd burner asus features). Both seems to get good press,
which unfortunately does not help me much ;). My objectives were: display
(I mostly develop various software so the higher the display the better -
SXGA+ shall work for me and that's probably max what I shall consider for
15" device), RAM (512+), built-in wifi (so centrino). Other h/w was less
important. Any sugestions, notes, comments are warmly welcome, especially
I don't care batteries work-time that much and I now wondering i.e.
much cheaper Acer TM 4001WLCI won't suffice (but that WXGA...)...
Damn Santa screwed his task not choosing proper gift and dropping off
socks instead, and I am doomed now. Life sucks, isn't it?

It's a tough choice. But whichever you chose, you'll love it. They are |
both good lappies.
I recommend this place: http://notebookforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58
Select Reviews subforum there to see user reviews and comparisons. There
are lots and lots of reviews there, and both Acer and Asus are discussed
in-depth. It's hard to give you precise list of pros and cons of each.
You have to read there and decide for yourself. They pay attention to
details a lot though so you'll get a very good picture. Besides, you
might consider a different vendor model if you look at some other posts
there. Also, in Notebook General subforum you'll find other people
asking help to decide between different models. See the responses.
I have Bluetooth in my Acer 8003 and I used it for a time with Logitech
Mx900 mouse. But then I switched to MediaPlay mouse (RF) and now
Bluetooth is always off. I think I could live totally without it. Now,
if you have BT phone, it might be a totally different matter.
Good luck.

Just received my TM 8003 today. I'm quite happy with it, and SXGA sized
display is quite cool, especiall when compared to plain 1024x768 ;) What
suck is the way home/end keys are handled as I use it quite frequently
but I think I can handle that.
