Slow 2D on Insp 9100 |
|
|
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar problem to me.
I have a DELL Inspiron 9100 with the 256Mb Ati 9800 gfx card.
The 2D response to me is way to slow, dragging windows around leaves
trail's. Lots of trails, screen refresh seems very slow.
I have gone through technical support with dell to no avail, latest
drivers/video bios/system bios installed. And finally they have told me
it must be a software problem so i have to call DELL's software support
division. Rubbish I say, its been slow since I got the machine. So never
mind any other software I may have installed since I got it.
The 3D seems ok, I havent running any of the 'mark' tests yet, which is
another point, can anyone recommend a tool which should show me what I
do get 2d/3d and also show me what I should be getting performance-wise.
Thanks,
Dave. |

Run Disk Cleanup and then Defragmenter. Open System Properties,
Advanced tab, Performance Settings button, Visual Effects tab, toggle
the Adjust for Best Performance button, reboot. See if this helps. If
it does, you can then select the Custom button and enable only those
visual effects that you really need.

That sounds like ghosting. Have you tried any games? Do you see the same
effect? Ghosting happens when the pixel response time can't keep up with the
frame rate. Two places where you would be able to see this is when moving
windows/mouse cursor around the screen and while place fast paced games with
lots of movement.

The games i've been playing are all quite good, Sims 2, Half Life 2. But |
they all use 3d. Windows itself is poor. |
