Battery going? |
|
|
At first I thought that my Toshiba Satellite was becoming allergic to
plane flights. It would work for a while, then lock up for no apparent
reason with the hard drive spinning. A reboot brings up the WinXP boot
screen but the little blue bars just run endlessly and it never
finishes booting. I really only use the PC once a month for teaching
purposes and fly much less often than that.
Having just flown over the weekend I think I have to conclude that the
battery is going and causing the problem. I would have thought that a
weakening battery would have the machine run fine but run down
quicker. I guess that is not the case? It works just fine plugged in,
and the only time I use it on battery is for flying. |

Batter charge-cycle meter? I'm not sure the Toshiba has one. It has an
LED that is orange when charging and green when charged. It was green
when I started using it. There is a charge indicater in the system
tray but by the time I started looking at it the machine was hanging.
I guess I'll charge it again and run it on batteries just to see what
happens. |

This is a software utility that should have come with the laptop.
Eveything manufactured since 1996 has one. It tells you how worn the
battery is. Lion batteries die off pretty quickly after 450 charge
cycles or so. Always something to look at before purchasing another
expensive battery. |
