Firewalls: SP2 versus the others. |
|
|
Hi,
I'm wandering if I should download one of the free firewalls, like Zone
Alarm or Sygate, or leave the internet security up to the firewall built
into XP SP2 which came with my computer?
I mostly go online in coffee shops that have free connectons and Boorders
etc.
So I don't want a firewall that's going to interrupt with me being able to
connect and are going to completely block the signar. I have experienced
that on a differenct machine with Sygate.
At the moment I've been going online using the firewall that came with my
computer, XP Pro with SP2.
Thanks.

The WinXP SP2 Windows Firewall does a good job at the incoming protection
it provides, but it has none of the outgoing protection that other
software firewalls provide (to help protect against spyware, worms, etc).
I'm surprised you had that problem with the free Sygate. I wonder if you
tightened it too much. You might want to try one the other free
firewalls such as Zone Alarm.
