In general, when I boot with the recovery disk, the recovery disk will run
automatically. If the disk does not run automatically. What sort of
command to run the recovery disk? In the disk, it has the following files.

preinst.crc
predata.bat
preinst.gho
span.bmp
ghost.exe

I tried to run all of them one by one. Only ghost.exe can be run
individually. How can I run the program to reinstall my pc?

Thanks,

Ray

Bobb,

The contents of Predata.bat are as follows:-

@ECHO OFF
REM --- Version 5.3(GHOST75) ---
SET SWN=S3A1892D
SET EXT=001
SET VOLLABEL=%SWN%%EXT%
SET FILENAME=%SWN%.%EXT%
SET COUNTRY=CHINA
SET INSTMODE=SING
SET COMPMODE=PARTITION
SET OSTYPE=XP
SET PASSMODE=YES
SET COMPRESS=3
SET COMPPROG=GHOST75
SET MPART=1
SET DISKUSE1=1.94 MB
SET DISKUSE2=1493.37 MB
SET CDMAX=3
SET CDNUM=1

I did a DIR /AS /AH but "NO FILE FOUND".

Any further suggestion?

Thanks,

Ray

All the batch file does is to set the correct environment for ghost to
run.

This is a mighty odd recovery disc, doesn't look like a factory disc.
Ghost is a third-party recovery utility. Why would any OEM pay
Semantec to use this software, there are cheaper, and vendor do use
better recovery methods.

Anyway, if this is the correct disc as far as you know, simply run
ghost.exe. Select Image->Partition. Typically the image is the .GHO
file, just unpack that to C: and see what happens. Now when you do
this, your entire C: partition is OVERWRITTEN.

Bobb,

Thanks for your advice. I will try it later on.

In fact, I saw it once and did the recovery once by myself. The first one
was when I purchased it, the shop recovered the OS from English to Chinese
with factory supplied disks and the second one was I recovered the OS for my
colleague using a bootable CD-ROM. The procedure was very simple - just a
few depresses of button according to the screen instructions - never enter
into Ghost DOS screen and just displayed the progressive bar and the advice
of changing disks. Probably, there is some secret when the system boots the
disk but I do not know the command so I cannot repeat the same booting
procedure using non-bootable CD-ROM.

The Ghost program is not included. The disks are auto-start and once you
click to start recovery it restores the original factory software (about 2.6
GB) in about 15 minutes. I do have Ghost as part of Norton System Works but
have not used it. I only know the disks are Ghost images by the file names
and the screen logo.
