Scanning software replacement - free alternatives required |
|
|
I wonder if anyone out there can point me in the right direction. I've
already scoured this (and other) groups but I can't put my finger on exactly
what I'm looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've recently purchased a second-hand Brother MFC-590 which didn't come with
its original CD. I've been able to download the necessary printer and
scanner drivers from the internet (for Windows 2000), but, of course, I
can't find a like for the original accompanying software/utilities. Given
that I can't get a replacement disk, I'm particularly looking for:
1. A scanning program that will handle the machine's ADF and will create
multipage PDFs.
2. Fax software that will allow the machine to be used as a fax from the PC
(this is possible with the original software, or there's a download for
Windows XP, not Windows 2000!).
Also, the prospect of finding free (maybe open source?) alternatives greatly
interests me, as spending £50-£100 on commercial software does kind of
negate the saving made by getting a second-hand machine.
Thanks in advance.
