Unreal Tournament |
|
|
I play UT regularly usually using Direct3d drivers for a change (looking
for a frame rate increase) I switched to Open GL but found the screen too
dark when I tried to change back the frame rate in D3D was down to an
unplayable level even after a reboot is this a one off or has anyone else
experienced the same effect, or found a cure?
kit :- Athlon 3200+ 1 Gb ram @ 400mhz ti4200 8x.
Derek
I changed the Open GL driver later for the patched version to get the screen
brightness to acceptable levels so for now its Open GL |

I had to turn off the Pre-Caching to make UT work with the newer drivers.

I use GlideWrapper and use Glide as the renderer.
You can only get 16 bit in the game but it looks
so much better.

An independent coder took up the task of maintaining the OpenGL renderer
long after the last patch:
http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utglr/
This version is far more compatible with newer cards, has proper gamma
support, and just looks a helluva lot better. |

With OpenGL, can you still use the S3TC pre-compressed high-resolution
textures off the second CD?

Deimos gave you the correct answer.
In the future, direct your UT questions to:
alt.games.unreal.tournament
The folks over there have heard it all and know the answer to most all
UT related questions.
BTW, you *will* get a decent framerate boost using the OGL drivers by
Chris Dohnal *and* the game will look better as well. In addition,
you will eliminate the bug seen by most D3D users where you get a long
pause during screen resolution changes. |

Ordinarily I ask AGUT for info ( despite it being more spam than Python)
had that been an unrelated question i.e. one for a video card other than an
Nvidia I would expect to have some negativety however this is an on topic
question to folk who understand the geforce cards and problems I have
recieved concise answers and some very good links thanks all. :)
and to the "one post on the group" troll back under the bridge before I
send for a goat

Yup. But unless the server uses them also (many don't) you may get
weird anomalies during the game, like "frozen" or "skating" player
models. |

I hope you didn't read my reply as being negative. I was just
recommending AGUT as a place for (possibly) better UT related answers.
I'm sure the folks in this group didn't mind your question. |

Sorry I misread your intention I'd been on the Truff forum looking for
answers and it seemed that it may have been a one off I'm happy with the
Open GL now I have the updated dll next stop is the patch to restore the
gamma adjustment its sad that AGUT has fallen so low it been a long while
since I was a regular poster when it was getting cliquey any way time to get
Nuttley out of the way and return to UT
