Nope, it's not part of the game engine. Besides, the DX9 mode (which just
contains basic bumpmapping) already humbles the X1800XL. Adding HDR would
make it unplayable. Chalk it up to CoD2 being a console port.

According to this review, X1800XL fares very well in CoD2, very close to NV
7800 GTX:

Too bad the game is a dog on *all* the cards. According to the review, you
will have to drop the resolution to a lowly 800x600 to maintain playable
framerates on the X1800XL.
Remember the X1800XL may be marketed to compete with the 7800GT, it is in
fact priced very close to the 7800GTX.
