Is there a real fix for PIO problems after standby? |
|
|
I've noticed an issue on my Averatec AV3715, where after
suspending/resuming several times, the hard disk drops down to PIO mode
(normally UDMA 5). The only way I can fix this is by deleting
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0002\MasterIdDataCheckSum
and rebooting.
This problem is mentioned specifically on MS's website and there is a
hotfix - but you have to call for it. They also say it's supposed to be
fixed in the latest service pack, but the note predates XP SP2, and I
have SP2 installed - so clearly the problem is NOT fixed.
Is there some real fix for this problem or is it just yet another
persistent and insoluble XP problem (like XP's chronic inability to
stay connected to a nearby WLAN)? |

I really don't fathom users fearing to make the call to MS for both
information and the hotfix. Hotfixes address system problems that are
not the pervue of anyone but Microsoft. Asking here is pointless. Make
the call. When you call, refer only to the issue addressed in the
hotfix. If you want to discuss tangential issues, then find another
venue. You might be denied the hotfix unless you are completely focused
on only the hotfix issue.

Calling for support to a general consumer tollfree line is the last
line of attack. The typical response is 50 pages of flowcharted
bullshit non-solutions, with the monkey on the other end unable to
proceed to the next box until you do some irrelevant step (usually
beginning "reinstall operating system from scratch"). |

You are so completely misguided as to be, well, insane.
