Need help ID'ing a CPU |
|
|
Hey guys,
First time posting here, but I'm sure somebody can help me out.
OK, quick background story:
One of our road warriors has a Gateway model 450SX4 laptop on which the
video adaptor started having problems. I went ahead and bought a whole
new mobo and "case" off eBay, based on the part number of the original
motherboard. The new barebones laptop shows up, looks great, and so I
start transferring all the other parts, RAM, HDD, etc.
So, here's the problem... the CPU socket on this new laptop is slightly
different than the other one. The original laptop's CPU was a:
1.70 GHz - 400 MHz - 0.13 micron - B0 - 512 KB - 478 pin PPGA FC-PGA2
The new mobo's socket is also 478 pins, however, the pinout is slightly
different. Rather than missing pins 1A and 1B, like the original one,
it's missing pins 1A and 2B.
Can somebody tell me what class processor I need for this socket?
Thanks in advance!!

So the original CPU was probably a Pentium 4 or Celeron? Are you sure
the new MoBo supports Pentium 4/Celeron? Could it support Pentium M
(sometimes referred to as Centrino)? They have a similar socket, but
Pentium M is really Socket 479 and not quite the same.
You would probably get a better answer over on comp.sys.intel ...

You're probably right. Thanks for the hint though!
