Sony just loves everyone $sys$anally. They are the greatest company
ever when it comes to technology $sys$that $sys$sucks. Everyone is
gonna love $sys$to $sys$hate Sony, and they will $sys$not buy any Sony
product that they see. It's because Sony loves $sys$to $sys$fuck
$sys$with their customers. |

I'm a TV whore and the only set that I own that's died on me in the
past 8 years was the Sony we had in the bedroom. It was nice when it
worked but it was only about 3 years old. One day I'm getting dressed
in the morning so I want to see the weather and news. I press the power
button on the remote, the set began to power on, made a loud "pop" and
that was all she wrote. In the end it all worked out better because it
gave me a great excuse to replace the set with a nice Hitachi. |

The new rootkit-style software on Sony's anti-piracy CDs has code in it
to hide any file with $sys$ in its name. ....(it was a joke).
On another note, I dislike Sony, have for a very long time. This whole
anti-piracy issue just furthers my dislike for them and something else
that is much more important. The entire anti-piracy war is making
getting music, movies, whatever, more difficult. Sony is a prime
example of this, can't play their 'new' CDs on your computer without
have virus like code installed on it. This will and is pushing users to
stay away from buying CDs or whatever it may be. In the long run, I
think this anti piracy war is pushing more users to piracy. It's easier
to download a full album torrent than it is to buy a CD and worry about
what it is unknowingly installing on your computer.

Just don't buy their products. I went out bought LG a few
days ago, and not a $ony DVD writer. I wasn't prepared
to take risks with $ony in case put something stupid in their

The day is coming when the word DRM is burned into
everyone's mind with the word hate - forever.
People are gonna start asking if the companies and artists
they are purchasing music or film from are sharing friendly
like www.magnatune.com and use sharing friendly licensing
like creative commons license.
If they are not sharing friendly, why should they spend
their hard earned pennies on sharing unfriendly companies
when there is so much good talent out there asking for those
same hard earned pennies to be spent on them?
There is a growing band of artists that are sharing friendly
and they are the ones who will get airing in the 10,000+
internet radio stations, podcasts and more importantly
paid because they came out to be heard and got paid a lot
more than the current unsustainable artist rip off business
models created by hopelessly outdated businesses that haven't
moved with the times who still believe in creating
scarcity for good talent as a way of getting quickly
rich on the back of talented artists and milking them dry. |

While your message is a bit ridiculous, I completely agree
that Sony has gone too far and I will not buy any Sony Audio
CDs with their stealth DRM virus on it, and think twice
before buying anything Sony if this is how little they
regard their customers. |

I won't be knowingly (they are obviously huge and own a lot of other
brands) buying Sony for a long time, period. There are other companies
that produce same or better quality products, so it's not like we have
no other choice (but if other major manufacturers follow Sony's lead,
we will practically *not* have any choice, so time to act is now).
Maybe it's scapegoating but I don't care and it sends a clear message
to the industry, which is getting more and more aggressive and
invasive by the minute, if enough people join. You can also return
products you recently purchased. I would insist on returning CDs by
Sony and other brands they own regardless. The stores may laugh at
you, but they sure will complain back to the distributors.
I used to think piracy was really a bad thing. Having seriously
thought about it, I have my doubts. I would think that these mega
corps owe much of their success to piracy. I wonder if the technology
would be advancing and being adopted at such a dizzying rate if it
weren't for piracy. When you think about it, hardware manufacturers of
all kind, not just hard disk or CD burner manufacturers, broadband
ISPs, media producers... etc are all benefiting hugely. In addition to
regular profits, they even get a direct cut from each CDR/DVR sold as
a "piracy tax". When their very own mp3 players are selling like
hotcakes, I find it hard to symphatize with their hypocritical cries
of lost profits. Of course it's been that way all along. IIRC, the
same companies building and selling dual casette decks were also given
a cut from each casette tape they sold to compensate for their "lost"
revenue.
I now believe piracy only hurts the smaller software developers, who
are neither compensated for piracy, nor have the resources or the
product line to milk it. |

Oh and what a surprise, the virus writers have already made use of Sony's
new Gateway technology. Did they really think they could write a way to
load code secretly onto a computer and the virus writers wouldn't of
spotted it.
But now of cause it doesn't matter if it's Sony or anyone else writing
these music/video discs, now that the door is open they can all make use
of it. They will already have the sony code, slap it on the front of any
CD/DVD and thats it. Every producer of CD/DVDs can use it anywhere in the
world.
I'm all for them going after the pirates, music is already crap simply
because its not worth anyone putting any money into hireing a studio,
musicians, production costs. But this method of Sony's is the most stupid
I've heard of.
I wonder what it does on a Linux. will the music just not play because
Sony's virus has to be on board first? |

What surprises me is that Apple gets a class action lawsuit when a couple of
people feel their iPods scratch to easily but Sony can install root kits onto
their computers - which have been shown to cause crashes and open their system
to other malware as well - and nobody even mentions a word about suing them.
