I have a Dell 8100 P4 1.7 with 256MB PC800 RDRAM that has been running fine.
I usually leave it running 24/7... today I went to use the computer and I
had the windows black screen you get when Windows wasn't shut down properly
(I didn't shut windows down) with the option to start in safe mode. I select
to start windows using the last known settings. As it was starting to go to
windows a blue screen flashed (too fast to see what it said) than went back
to the Windows black screen with the safe mode options. I can get into
Windows in safe mode but I don't have a clue what to look for as my problem.
I suspect that the blue screen that flashes up when I don't go into safe
mode (I don't see the blue screen when I select safe mode) gives some clue
as to what is wrong but it comes and goes too fast to read anything. How do
I troubleshoot in safe mode? What are some logical culprits? Memory? Drives?
I am a novice at this. I have just done basic things with my systems but
don't know where to start to troubleshoot this. BTW I did try system restore
but still have the problem. Any ideas?? Thanks!!!!!!

Start in safe mode and disable Auto Restart on Error.

Right click MyComputer select properties/advanced
Under Startup and Recivery click Settings
Under System Failure uncheck Automatically Restart

Now you see the error message

Thanks that let me see the error. The error I got was
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage.
BAD_POOL_CALLER
If this is the 1st time you've seen this stop error message restart your
computer"......(it goes on)
Than it say "Check new hardware or software installation is properly
installed"....blah blah.....
It then had these codes at the bottom
**STOP: 0x000000C2 (0x00000007, 0x00000CD4, 0xE1E3D008, 0xE1C5E168

I have not installed any new hardware or softeware in ages on my machine. I
have full McAfee firewall and virus scan.
AND by the way now that I diabled the Autorestart for getting into safe mode
how do I now get into safe mode?
Thanks!!!

Google for this phrase, select the first Microsoft link. Does that give any

BTW. To start in safe mode press F7 when Windows first starts to load
(i.e. right after POST)

Does Sony actually design & build the burners? Or is it just some

So far they've been tacking their name onto other major
brand drives like Liteon's. They have no design, build or
firmware differences beyond the manufacturer ID string and
the faceplate with the Sony name on it.

Which then brings up this:
Unlikely a completly seperate consumer products hardware division of
Sony will be having much to do with DRM, since that would affect that
division's financial health. People need to quit extrapolating that
the Sony that makes CDs and the Sony that sells CD burners are related
by anything other than a common top level management. This is driven
solely by the Sony music division and it would be suicide for the
Consumer Products (probably is for music, we shall see).
