I've jsut received a Compaq M700 I won on Ebay. All is fine except that the
'Fn' keys (F4-F10) don't work. The 'Fn' key itself is ok as it works for the
caps/scroll lock. I only care about 'Fn' + F8 (battery level) and 'Fn' + F10
(screen brightness control) but it would be nice to fix.
Any clues why this should be, or have I just bought a dog?
Cheers,
JB

The function keys are likely controlled by a startup application that
must be installed before the keys will perform their functions. Go to
www.hp.com and enter the model number in the search box. Navigate to
software and driver downloads. Find the function key application. If
it is not there, then you will have to order a set of recovery disks,
also on that page.

Thanks for the help, but having looked into it further, this is BIOS
problem, fixed by a later version of the BIOS. I've got the new BIOS now but
can't seem to find a way to flash the bios on the laptop as I have no floppy
drive on this model, only a CD.

Thanks again,,

JB

Have you tried this? The description Hotkey Support Software, is in my
mind exactly what you need.
