gigabyte 6600gt driver problems |
|
|
i just installed this card on a new ga-k8nxp-sli board and installed xp-pro
clean. when i use the latest nvidia drivers and start up a game, the monitor
turns off claiming a sync herts error, i believe it is because the monitor
function of the drivers detect a flat panel lcd monitor when i have a flat
screen CRT monitor. i cant seem ot change what monitor i have installed. if
i press the windows key i cant turn the monitor back on. i reset my OS and
started again, this time using the driver disk supplied by gigabyte
(forceware 71.24) and everything runs fine, but games wont run in windowed
mode should i need to pause and minimise the game.
i was an ATI fanboi before this card, in fact i still am as i never had any
problems. but i would appreciate some knowledge and experiance from this
group as to what my problem might be.
i havent yet flashed the mobo or gpu with the latest bios's, but i will if i
decide to keep this setup.

You could try installing a driver specific for the monitor, instead of
using the plugnplay/default monitor drivers. There might have been a cd
that came with the monitor that has a driver like that. I'm sure you can
find one at your manufacturer website though.
I myself am using a specific driver for my monitor. Mainly because the
default drivers don't seem to recognize all the non-standard or really
high resolutions my monitor is capable of showing (Samsung 959NF 19"
CRT, 1600x1200@85Hz recommended, 1920x1440@74Hz maximum). |

yup, did that before installing the gpu drivers. the monitor shows the
correct model but nvidia's drivers show something different.
