HELP, problem burning cd's. |
|
|
I've never had a problem burning cd's, but just recently every cd i
burned gets ruined, and i need some help on how to fix this.
Whenever i burn a cd now the last two tracks on the cd have a
scratching/clicking/fuzz sound in the background throughout the whole
song. Let's say i'm burning a CD with 15 tracks, 1-13 will sound fine,
but the last two songs will have the noise problems.
Any ideas on what's going wrong & how to fix it?
Thanks |

for a start it would help if you gave some info. Which drive are you
using, how long have you had it? What operating system do you have?

Que! CD-RW (20x write/10x ReWrite/40x Read)
I've had it for a little over a year, no problems until the last month.
I'm using Windows 98.
Thanks. |

To be honest I've never heard of the brand but this sounds more like a
physical problem than a software one. having said that have you tried
more than one program to burn your discs? Also have you changed brand
of discs lately?

At a guess, your writes have a high error rate, higher at the edge
(which is normal) by which point the ECC can no longer clean it up.
Measure the error rate on the discs you're using, then try other lines
and speeds to see if that handles the problem. If not, then it may be
debris in the drive's optics, which means careful cleaning or replacement.

What source data are you burning from? Are these audio files you have ripped
yourself? If so have you checked whether the distortion is present on those
also? If so, then this suggests inadequacies in the ripping process. I would
suggest you try alternative ripping tools especially Exact Audio Copy
www.exactaudiocopy.org which is arguably the best of its type.
If the source files are clean then the likely problem is the error count as
indicated by Mike in his response. In this case you will probably find that
dropping the write speed a little will provide a quick fix, but you need to
check the error rates at different burn speeds in order to ascertain the
optimum write speed for the media you are writing to.
