Epson C84 Won't Print... |
|
|
I get a brief flashing message box that the ink is out when I go to
print. It goes through the whole thing and then gives me a message that
the printing has stopped. I'm out of 2 colors and low on a third but
I'm OK on the black. I just want to print in black now, and I set the
print specs to black and white. Will this printer not just print in
black? How can I fix this? I'm on a MAC. Thanks! |

Printer will not print if one ink is out. It doesn't make a difference that
you are only trying to print in black. |

Junk it. Get a personal laser printer. |

True.
Solution: Get a resetter. That way you can squeeze the last drop of ink out
of your cartridges, and then is a good idea to get some bulk inks and
refill them.

Hmm... Mine would give a warning and I could click cancel and it would
continue to print with 2 empty color cartridges... However, 2 weeks
after replacing all the empties, it decided to stop printing, cleaning
the heads didn't help etc... 1 month out of warranty... I gues it was 8
months better than the last 2 HP's I had, but epson, HP and Lexmark all
belong in the trash... Bought a canon MP450 to replace it |

Sounds familier to me too.
A brand new C62 clogged on the 2nd day, some months later it was
exchanged, the Epson agent threw it in a waste bin, the exchanged
unit came minus inks and that clogged on the 4th day all with Epson
inks.
I got a Canon ip5000 4/5 months old by now and thats not clogged once
nor ever required a manual head clean and its a lot more economical.
The replacement ended up where it best belongs in a big hole in the
ground.
Don't get clogged with an Epson try a Canon..!

Re: Epson C84 Won't Print... |

I've got six C84s running at our school and another dozen of them sitting
in boxes. I am reluctant to take them out and put them into service because
of the clogging that occurs on them. Two of the six running have partial
clogs. One machine will only print in color and the other I've been unable
to get the magenta cleared. I've tried numerous tactics, including injection
of Windex, also the head cleaning solution that "Epson uses to clean" that I
purchased seperately for $$15, and tried putting it, Windex, alcohol, on the
docking station over several days. I've read Arthur Entlich's book too, just
for being thorough, warmth, and verification. Additionally I had one C84 at
home for my kid become clogged that would never clear despite intense
cleaning attention.
I think we're done with the Epson line for general printing after our 740
and 880 printers fade. Those two models are still terrific for classroom
needs, and being able to purchase aftermarket cartridges for them at $7 a
set makes it a bargain.
And I'm ready to try a Canon. |

Don't think you'll be dissapointed and think you will be surprised o
how economical they are, the text is as good as the laser I have
The story goes, I was 'rooting and tootin' for a replacement for th
Epsons when I came across the 'El chepo' laser, a Samsung ML151
about £54 UK inc. del. at the time and with 12 months warranty
I couldn't resist as I wanted one to be able to make PCB designs b
printing on toner transfer paper then ironing it onto the plai
copper PCB, does a super job, it's used alongside the ip5000 as th
main text doc. printer
The toner assembley is around £60.... I've refilled this 2 or 3 time
to date for as little as £12 and the toner drum is still going stron
which is part of the toner unit
Doing graphics and the odd colour pictures I wanted a colour printer
I wasn't going to get another Epson so was hell bent on a Canon, no
my way of thinking was I had a belly full of the Epson with cloggin
etc. The C62 clogged on the 2nd day, the replacement sometime late
clogged on the 4th day so no more Epsons for me
I was doubtful about the ip5000, not really surprising with the hasse
I had and was screwed into my mind by 'The curse of Epson' that-
finer heads means more clogs, dunno why I took the bait but I did
maybe I thought it can't be as bad as the Epson experience - ho
wrong I was... not one single clog nor manual nozzle clean in...
well I'm losing count now but reckon it's about 4 or 5 months old
With the Epsons I had to check each print for faults, yes even tex
doc. with the Canon I can print and forget - 100% every time apar
from user cock-ups which the printer can't be blamed for
It's surprising the number of people who experience this problem tha
goes out an buy another one to end up with the same problem, what
more surprising the newer printers won't allow the use of non Epso
inks so it seems and without any form of external warning on th
box

I agree with you. My only additional pain is looking at twelve unopened C84
s under the table. I could sell them of course but the school district would
never understand. Maybe I'll just leave them there and pretend they're
invisible.
I wonder if anyone from Epson monitors this group or even cares what they're
producing at this point as medium duty printer.

Doubt they dare show their faces, they'll probably hide behind a stack
of clogged printers.

Though I'm not an 'Epson person' officially (anymore), I'd vouch for them
any day...but, then again, the numbers speak for themselves...the
competition in this market is pretty tough...guess that's why there are so
many people willing to bash one over the other...
Still looking for that "Happy Epson Customer" website/newsgroup...wonder why
they haven't started one already...but, then again, I don't see any for HP
or Canon either...
Must be a conspiracy... |

Just count the number of problems with them, I have nothing at all to
do with Canon, Epson, HP or any other printer company.
Yes, you can expect a printer's to clog once in a while but not
continously, not just Epson, Canon HP or any other.
I can honestly say that my printer clogged on the 2nd day, the
replacment clogged on the 4th day and all with OEM ink - is that
normal, no I don't think so and I doubt very much that you do to.
I can also honestly say that my Canon ip5000 has never clogged nor
wanted a manual nozzle clean yet, with the Epsons I had to check each
print even text documents for flaws with the Canon I can print and
forget knowing there will be no flaws.
If the Epson was like that or even clogged once in a while I would
accept that, as you probably know once they clog they stay clogged
don't just read my comments.
BTW the Canon is over 4 months old now put that alongside an Epson I
know which one I will go for and without any hesitation.
