AMD 64 3200+ , Turion 1.6 Ghz or Intel P IV 3.2 Ghz |

Hi all,
I need to buy a laptop (my first persoanl one) I need it for high
Processing speed. can anyone guide me which one to chose and why.
all your suggestion and review will help me to not only choose the
right one but also enlighten my knowledge about those.

Which is the better choice depends on the purpose for which you need the
high processing speed. AMD64 in general gives a little better performance
all else being equal, and is less of a power hog than the P4 besides.
There are some tasks (video rendering for example) where the P4 has the
edge.
The OS you're using also matters--64-bit Windows doesn't give you a lot of
performance gain over 32-bit, but 64-bit Linux with 64-bit applications
does show a significant boost. You'll pay a pretty good price penalty for
64-bit support on a P4, and I'm not sure whether they show the same
performance gains in 64-bit operation as do the AMDs.
If you need raw performance the Turion 1.6 would not be the best choice.

I need to run different processor simulators on the laptop, may be
some video encoding stuff , Matlab or Octave...
