Small fonts on 7800 Series |
|
|
I'm considering purchasing a 7800 series card, however I have a concern
about nvidia cards display of smaller fonts with Windows XP. I have
purchased and then returned a nvidia based card before due to smaller fonts,
as used for Windows icons or any other small font below 10 appearing
slightly blurry.
Switching back to an ATI based card (currently a Radeon 800), I have
absolutely no problem using same monitor and system. I actually have tried
nvidia based card twice. For gaming and everything else the previous cards
were great, it was primarily when looking at the Windows desktop, internet
and business applications that the problem presented itself.
I'm using a high end Sony 21" CRT. Even when running the display at a
relatively low resolution of 1024 x 768 I experienced this problem. Not so
with any ATI card.
This was probably with a couple generations card back, so I'm wondering if
anyone else has noticed this with 6800 or 7800 based Nvidia products? |

Supposedly the problem was rarer with the 4 series cards, but before that
the card makers would use cheap parts.

I've never heard of this particular problem, but I can tell you that my |
desktop (anything 2D, but fonts especially) looks, if anything, better
on my 7800GTX than it did with my old 9800PRO. (XP Pro.)

I don't think this has been much of an issue on NVidia cards for a few
card generations. In any case, 2D quality depends on the specific
manufacturer of the card since it is determined by the analog components
used on the board which are chosen by the card maker, not NVidia. They
did set some minimum standards for those components a while ago after
the GeForce2 MX days, when many cards had quite horrible 2D image
quality due to the low quality components in the RFI filter.
