I have a 6600 GT AGP. When i use newer drivers it becomes impossible to
watch at video files or dvds. The programs (Power DVD 6 or Windows media
classic or ...) just jam and i have to restart the computer. I tried many
versions of driver but i always get the same results. I didn't tried any
3Dgames with these newer versions though.
I am using 71.89 and it works but the more recent don't.
The 80 series don't work either. They install correctly but it becomes
impossible to watch any video. I did an uninstall prior installing the new
driver. Then i taught that my computer was infected by a virus so i
formated my hard drive and reinstalled a new version of the NVIDIA driver
witch didn't work, even on that fresh installation. I went back in my
downloads and i tried many versions of the driver until the 71.89 worked.

Thanks

Several people have been posting the same type of problem lately: Cannot
playback videos. The solution has been the same so far, just make sure
your motherboard chipset driver is installed properly.

For VIA boards, you'll need the VIA Hyperion drivers. For NVIDIA NForce
boards, it's the Forceware Unified driver. I'm sure some of the newer
Intels may need one too.

Also note for nVidia motherboards, you may have to install the drivers off
the CD before trying the latest downloads, as the nVidia downloadable
version will most probably still lock up on video playback without the CD
based drivers ( did for me on an nForce 3 mobo with two different installs
of Windows. )
