I think I have enough with the Epson inkjet printers. The printhead clog
regularly. I can unclog them but the ink also get use up rather fast. I
didn't print many photos either. I am wondering if I get a Canon printer
(maybe i9900), can I still use the Epson "Premium Glossy" and
"ColorLife" paper with good result? What about the printer/paper
profile? TIA.

Not familiar with Epson Premium Glossy or ColorLife. But I use or have
used Epson Glossy Photo Paper with Canon iP4000/iP5000 and i860 printers
and can assure you it prints perfectly. I have also used the same paper
without a hitch on a Lexmark Z55.

The i9900 printer uses BCI-6 type cartridges, I believe, same as for the
Canon printers mentioned above, so I would say the paper should work
fine. Can't help you with profiles as I don't use them.

Canon printers have a tendency to clog less (makes no difference if it's
Canon ink or other brand), but you can still get a clogged printhead if
you don't use it frequently enough. Print something a couple of times a
week to keep things fluid. Remember, these are quick drying inks. Over
time they will also dry in your printhead's tiny nozzles.

CANON PRINTER USING CANON OEM INK PRINTS FIND WITH EPSON PAPER. IT DOES
PRINT AS GOOD OR BETTER USING COSTCO/KIRKLAND PHOTO GLOSSY PAPER AND
THAT CAN BE HAD 125 LETTER SIZE SHEETS FOR UNDER $20.00. THEY ALSO SELL
A ROTARY PAPER CUTTER FOR UNDER 30.00 AND YOU CAN CUT YOUR OWN SIZE.
THEY ALSO HAVE SOMEWHAT LOWER PRICES ON CANON INK.

ABSOLUTELY AS LONG AS YOU USE CANON OEM INK

YOU CAN USE THE SAME PROFILE AS CANON PHOTO PAPER PRO. COSTCO/KIRKLAND
PAPER WORK GREAT. ALMOST AS GOOD AS CANON PHOTO PAPER PRO WHEN USING
OEM INK.

NEVER USE GENERIC INK IN THAT GOOD OF A PRINTER. I RELEGATE AFTERMARKET
INK FOR USE IN A LEXMARK.

Without custom paper/printer profiles the 9900 is essentially crippled with
regard to high quality print making. I have only seen one review of this
printer that even alluded to this issue by stating that the laudatory review
was based on prints made using custom paper profiles generated by the
reviewer. Buyers should stay away from printers like the 9900 unless they
understand color maanagement and the use of paper profiles or are willing to
learn.
I have used both Canon and Epson printers and now use Epson exclusively.
Canon printer drivers in my experience are just not reliable for color
managed printing. I prefer to have a predictable relationship between what
I see on the monitor and what comes out of the printer.

Of course you can. You can also use after market inks like MIS (which I
use)in your i9900 without clogging.

What he says about paper is true, what he says about ink is false, based
on no experience with aftermarket inks.

Hello! Lets be entirely truthful here, ok. Using different brand of
paper with different brands of inks is simply a matter of trial and
error. Canon photo paper with Canon oem inks is a pretty good match
although some color correcting is sometimes necessary as it is with all
brands.
I personally use non-canon inks (MIS) with Canon paper and get EXCELLENT
results in my Canon i9900 printer.
But most of what meashershithead says is nothing more than pure
unadulterated BULLSHIT LIES!

WHEN YOU USE GENERIC INKS YOU ARE AT GREATER RISK OF GETTING A HEAD CLOG
SINCE THE PRINTER AND INK WERE NOT DESIGNED TO WORK TOGETHER. THAT
SHOULD MAKE SENSE TO THE MAJORITY OF USERS OUT THERE AND I AM SURE IT
DOES BY LOOKING AT CANON INK SALES.

WHAT I SAY ABOUT INK IS TRUE. IF A PERSON HAS TROULBE WITH GENERIC INK

HE BOUGHT FROM VENDOR A AND THEN GOES AND BUYS A DIFFERENT LABEL FROM
VENDOR B THERE IS A HIGH PROBABLILITY HE WILL GET THE SAME STUFF. IT
CANNOT BE TRACKED BECAUSE THERE ARE NO BRANDS OF PREFILLED CARTS OTHER
THAN CANON EPSON AND HP

I WISH THERE WAS BUT THERE IS NOT

THEY REFUSE TO DISCLOSE WHO THE MFG/FORMULATOR IS SO YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT
YOU ARE GETTING. YOU ALSO DO NOT KNOW IF THEY CHANGE THEIR SUPPLIER
FROM ONE MONTH TO THE NEXT. THEY MIGHT BUY FROM THE LOWEST BIDDER.

CANON SUPPLIES A PROFILE FOR CANON PHOTO PAPER PRO WHEN USING CANON OEM

INK. IT PROVIDES GOOD RESULTS. COSTCO/KIRKLAND PAPER ALSO PROVIDES
ALMOST AS GOOD RESULTS WHEN USING THE SAME PROFILE.

Actually you knew when formulabs changed their formula, you knew the
very next day. If MIS changed their formula or suplier you'd be one of
the first to know and plaster this group with that info. That's why
you are so cool... cause so long as you are not ranting about it they
haven't done it yet.

HA HA HA THEY DO NOT DISCLOSE WHO MAKES THEIR GENERIC PRODUCT. WORSE
THAN THAT THEY USE TWO MFG. ONE FOR BOTTLES INK FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT A
MESS AND THE OTHER FOR PREFILLED CARTS FOR PEOPLE WHO JUST WANT AN EASY CLOG

Duh!

So tell me... if it's so easy to clog why don't I have a clog?
