External H/D/drive |

Is it possible to use an external H/Drive with an alternative O/S
installed so that I could switch should drives on boot up . I seem to
think this might involve changing some settings on the M/Board
everytime you need to change to the different drive. would this be the
case.

If you have a suitable SCSI card, this is acheivable.
From USB it is not.

I think it would depend upon your bios, if the bios allows for booting

You might consider a MB or controller card that supports
SATA2 drives (You can use SATA drives) as they support
the hot swap function. The drives could be mounted in a
removable bay. You could swap the drives and push the
reset button.

If your MB's BIOS allows booting from a USB device it is quite easy -- |
make the USB device the first item in the boot device list and if it has
a bootable image then it will boot. If it does not then the next item in
the list will get its chance. It seems that most modern BIOSs have the
USB option. In fact it doesn't even have to be an HD -- a thumb flash
drive will work as well.
