I'm interested in a closer look at this. I used to have sli when the 3dfx
voodoo cards were out ten years ago, but I know this is way different, or I
guess it is.

Anyway, I'm just wondering how many of you out there are using 2 video cards
in tandem utilizing the SLI technology.
I also would like to know how well does it really work. Is it worth, for
instance getting a single 7800gtx, or 2 of the lesser cards, say maybe
6800??

Just wondering about all this. I haven't been staying informed on this
stuff lately. Info is greatly appreciated.

I totally can't help you with this, other than to say:

When I come back from Europe (May 2006) I'll be saving up for a second
XFX7800GT.

So I definitely plan on using SLI - I just have other things to spend my
money on atm!

Why, by that time you'll have definately new, better & faster cards on the
market for the price of today 7800gtx, it would be better to sell the one
you allready have and buy newer one !

I have it running and it works just fine, however for the applications
I have I really dont see much of a difference. The only game I play is
World of Warcraft and there little to no performance gain there. Im sure
there are some games and other apps that can get a performance boost
from having SLI enabled. I havent run any real tests with diagnostic
software so what im saying is subjective.
The one thing that annoys me though is that adding the second video card
forced me to give up a PCI slot in addition to the additional PCI
express slot(beacause of space constraints).

At this point I would just go for the best single card within your budget.

are you telling me (us) that the next cards will be 85% faster than the
7800gtx?
somehow I doubt it.

You know, I thought the same thing. Then I rejected that notion. I don't
think there will be - not in, what, 7 months, 8 at the most?

The 7800GTX only just came out, chances are they're working hard to build a
7800'Ultra' to 'beat' the current ATI top-end card...

I clicked send before I was ready there...woah.

Anyway, at the most I think we would see one new card come out before then
(May).
And even still, it's going to need to be nearly twice the power of a 7800GT
OC'd, but for less money than the by-then reduced price of a 7800GT.
I bought mine for AUD750, IIRC. By then, let's say it will be 650-700. If
they release a 7800Ultra (just for the sake of calling a 'better' card
something), it will have to be at least twice as fast as my existing 7800GT,
and cheaper than AUD650. And most likely, the release of such a card might
push the price of the 7800GT down, and therefore the price it has to beat,
even further.

If I was waiting one to two years, then it might be an idea to sell the
7800GT and buy a 8800GT or whatever, but by May 2006? I'd be extremely
surprised, and it'd be better for me to buy another Gig of Ram and a
dual-core CPU.
