I had a short on the lower left corner that any time you press down
with your finger, the machine turns off. Decided to open it up, so I
downloaded the service manual and went to it. Moved a few things,
wiggled a few others and, what do you know, the machine boots fine,
except now the monitor does not work. I get no video, but I do get
video if I connect an external monitor. I must have disturbed the
power to the screen, but where is the wire for that. Is it in the one
ribbon cable I see when I remove the keyboard and the EMI shield. This
is driving me crazy.

Shutdown issues on the 1100 and 5150 series Dells are generally the
fault of bad solder joints on U-56.. Looks to be an adapter
interface chip or AIC.. (Cannot get a datasheet for this one)..
Reseat video card and recheck connx.. chances are you missed
something as far as the video is concerned.. If you need more help
just yell..
