Can anyone offer any pointers as to how this should be done? I have
the service manual and have removed the obvious screws, but would
appreciate any advice on where to go from there.

I need to change out a cracked DC jack.

Thanks
Steve

Many of the Sony's open by sliding the part at the top of the keyboard to
the right after removing a screw from the left side. After moving a slight
distance, the piece can be carefully lifted, watching for connecting ribbon
cables. Then you can see how the keyboard, hard drive, processor and
motherboard are secured.

Thanks guys, that particular forum is where I found the link to the
service manual, which is basically just an exploded parts diagram.
Useful, but not the whole story.

Most of the F series do indeed have a screw on the left hand side of
the speaker panel - but not the FRV 35. There are four screws
underneath rubber 'feet' on the LCD and also three screws underneath
the LCD panel hinge, which I don't think I can remove without taking
off the lid. But it seems a bit extreme to be removing the the display
just to open up the case.

You dont have to crack open the display to get to the DC jack.. (That
like opening the trunk on your car to add oil) Coverplate rear o
keyboard comes off first... the rest is self explanitory
