Hi,
I had an Olympus C-5060 wide zoom, I had to return it back to the shop due
to the camera having faults, it was back and forward to Olympus for repair
time and time again.
I bought a Canon 350 EOS ( rebel) to replace it, when I had the Olympus, if
I took say 400 shots, nearly all of them would be sharp and in focus in the
auto mode, yet when I use the Canon, out of 400 shots, I would say that less
than half in the auto mode would turn out OK, some would be out of focus in
the AF/mode others would be blurred, The Canon has the standard kit 18-55mm
USM lens , I am pressing the shutter button halfway and the lens is moving
to focus before I finally shoot,

Can the Canon not be used as basically a point and shoot camera in the
auto mode? or is this due to me, not understanding the camera?
What am I doing wrong?

Nad

What is the minimum aperture of the lens, is it smaller that F2? (Smaller

numbers are larger aperture and less light needed).

Maybe you are not waiting long enough for the camera to focus. Do you wait
for the ready light? The shutter lag may be longer than you are used to.

Also is the shutter speed coming out less than 1/60th second? You may not
have enough light in those instances.

3.5 to 5.6 is the aperture range on the lens

It takes much more light to get a fast shutter speed with that lens. That
may be why you are getting more blurry pictures.

Use flash or put the camera on a tripod.
