Fujitsu Siemens AMILO D1845 - Screen keeps freezing up |
|
|
I am running Windows XP build 2600 sp 2 on the above laptop. Any work I
try to do is severly disrupted by screen lock-ups; sometimes the screen
comes back after a minute, sometimes after almost 5 mins, sometimes i
just have to switch off and re-boot. This seems to happen more and more
now, I have run software utility packages to try and optimise
performance but this does not make any difference. The problem is
particularly bad when I have any graphics on the screen. I do not play
any computer games, i only use the m/c for work purposes. This problem
is driving me mad. Anyone else suffered from these problems and does
anyone know of any resolutions? |

You are not saying if this has always been the case. I would first make |
sure the display driver is the right one and properly installed.

John,
I have had the laptop for about 9 months now, I have had this screen
freezing for about 3 months but it seems to be getting more and more
frequent. How do I check if the display driver is the right one? |

By going on the manufacturers site, downloading the latest driver from |
your machine (make sure you identify correctly your machine) and by
going into Control Panel, System, Hardware, DEvice Manager, Display
adapter, Properties, Driver, Update and selecting the file you downloaded.
Regards

John, |
Check list:
1/ Any yellow question marks in Device Manager?
2/ What happens when you boot into Safe Mode? If the problems does not
show up, check in msconfig all your start-up programs, disable all of
them and enable them one by one until you can spot a difference.
3/ Are you sure you are running your machine in its native (normal)
definition?
Then, to rule out a hardware problem, I would suggest checking your
machine with a clean install of XP. The easiest way would be of course
to do this clean install on another HD if available.
Another way would require using System Commander to create a new
partition and install XP without interfering with your present
installation (assuming you have about 10G free space). If you are
familiar with this approach, it is fairly simple. Otherwise, it will
require some handholding or a good read from the manual.
Whatever route you choose, make sure you backup your data ... and let me
know.

Do not hesitate to ask what you do not understand. That's what NGs are |
for. Or you can contact me privately, this address does work, but before
any one says I open myself to spam, I do have a very efficient filtering
system before anything gets to my mailbox.
