LiteOn SOHW-1633S gets killed by Windows XP SP2 |
|
|
After the service pack installation, windows will no longer write to
blank DVD+R disc. I will only write CDs. It doesn't have any
problems reading discs.
The name of the drive gets changed from DVD to CD, when a blank DVD+R
disc is inserted in it. Also, the amount of free space and used space
on an inserted disc is always wrong. DVD burning also gets killed by
SP1. The firmware for the drive is the latest 11/2004. |

That happens here too. Microsoft is in a catch22 situation here. It responds
to complaints about security and then gets complaints about the measures
necessary to overcome them. If you are careful about security, SP2 is
probably an answer to a problem you don't have.

Thanks for the reply Graham Mayor. I get the same problem with SP1 as
well, do you? My DFI Nforce 3 says it needs SP1 to enable USB 2.0
support, and SP2 to enable Nvidia Hardware firewall in the Nforce 3
chipset. I can't believe this is happening. This is truly
incredible. |

I have no problems (different hardware platform) with SP1, but SP2 kills DVD
writing via USB (but not CD writing) as you originally reported.

NO, I am not using a USB DVD burner. It is an internal IDE Burner
model# LiteOn SOHW 1633S. I only was saying that you need SP1 for USB
2.0 support, and SP2 for Nvidia Hardware Firewall (Supported by the
Nvidia Nforce3 board I am using.) That is why I want to install the
sevice pack. Are you able to burn DVDs under SP1a with your internal
SOHW 1633S Drive? |

My 'internal' drive is mounted in a USB2 box. It's used with a laptop.

I already have a Nec 1100A drive and Nero OEM Suite installed.
Last week I added the LiteOn 1633S drive to my system.
The LiteOn is writing and reading DVD+RW without a problem.
It writes to DVD+R's but it cannot read them back.
They cannot be played in my Sony DVD players either.
Liteons website advises to upgrade the Nero to latest version due to XP
SP2 compatiblitiy problems.
Did anybody have this problem? |
