External monitor won't work - toshiba satellite |
|
|
I have a Toshiba Satellite P15 with Windows XP.
When I try to connect an external monitor the following happens:
- when xp is starting the laptop lcd is empty and the external minitor show the
booting process of XP
- when the actual Windows destop comes up the external monitor goes blank and the
laptops own LCD shows the XP destop.
What could be the problem? |

It's a Compal thing. Every Compal built Toshiba I've seen in the last
couple of years does that. You have to use the Fn-F5 hotkey to toggle
back to the external monitor. Pretty damn annoying.
Good luck,

Thanks. It helped. I had to press a couple of time until a selection menu would
pop up and I could choose output from there. |

It's a configuration issue, probably. XP supports dual monitors, and is
proably initializing and activating both monitors, but the "display" on
the 2nd monitor (which is unconfigured and which you are not using) is a
"blank screen".
The configuration of this varies greatly by laptop and video display
subsystem.
