Ok Guys, You Helped Once..... |
|
|
The readers here were kind enough to help me select a card and I am thrilled
with the results. Perhaps someone knows the answer to this question.....
I removed a GeForce Ti4600 from my PC. Rather then sell it, I took a look at
the system requirements and thought that card would breathe a bit of life
into my husband's relic, a Micron PIII 600. He uses it only for email and
not much else that would require high performance.
I was much surprised to read system requirements as working with a PII, PIII
and P4. The motherboard is a Seattle 440BX. He is using plain old Win 98 and
the system has 384MB ram. The box has a Diamond Viper 770 card and Diamond
Monster 3d accelerator.
Will the Ti4600 card work with his setup? Thanks.

If it fits in the AGP slot, it should work. 1.5v and 3.3v cards have a
slightly different connector. I have an FX5600 working in an old
Celeron 433 system with a 440LX board. |

I'm using a Ti4600 in a Abit BE6 II (440BX) motherboard right now. P III |
800, 768 megs ram. It should work as it is the 440BX chipset. You could
email the Micron tech support and ask them if the Ti4600 will work ok in
their board.

It's a waste of a good Ti4600 sticking it in a computer that is only going
to be used for email and other 2D apps. Your husband won't gain anything
from it. He'd be utilizing no more graphics processing power than can be
found in my old Cirrus Logic 5465.
BTW, the Seattle 440BX (assuming it is not a Seattle 440BX-3) supports only
AGP 1.0 spec, so the Ti4600 will be limited to AGP 2x --just in case that
information should ever come in handy.
