Issue with ZV6000 and USB Mouse

I purchased a HP ZV6000 laptop running XP Home and attempted to
connect a usb mouse to the computer. The port works, but the machine
does power on the mouse (optical) or even pop up the ADD HARDWARE box.
The mouse works in other machines (tried in a Dell laptop with XP).

Does the ZV6000 have a new type of USB port or do I need a newer
mouse?

I now know that XP will not power on the device if it does not "see"
it and as the ZV6000 does not sense the mouse, it never gets power.

Any Ideas
