Hi,

My old Compaq Presario 17XL492 has a funny screen fault, which seems to
get worse when it is folded shut with power still on.

The colour gets a little washed-out with a redish tint. It seems like a
weird thing to happen and wondered what could be causing it? I know its
getting on in years but thought it might be someting as simple as an
adjustment/loose cable. Compared to my new laptop it gets pretty hot so
maybe this is affecting it?

This is more likely an optical problem in the LCD panel or a CCFT lamp
in the panel that is simply dying due to age. The lamps can be replaced
but it's a repair that is beyond the capabilities of most users.
