Hi I'm looking at buying a low end laptop and the Dell 1200 has a great
price, but the sales rep at Dell says they are absolutely not upgradable;
not the memory or anything.
How true is this??

Thanks

From the US site:
http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_1200?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~tab=specstab#tabtop

Memory: 2 SoDIMM sockets, one is user-accessible.

So, at least for the US version, at least the RAM can be upgraded. Hard
drives can usually be upgraded but this might be a design that requires
that the case be opened and that usually voids the warranty - the US
warranty for this is 90days due to the very low price.

One RAM socket is available for adding a memory chip and i had no
problems removing the hard drive. Kits like Apricorn make hard drive
upgrades easy. You'll probably void the warranty, but like they say,
it's probably a short one anyway.

Carla;
Where did you get the info on how to remove the hard drive in the 1200? Is
there a web site with directions or somewhere you can direct me to?
Thanks!

Are 90 day warranties legal in the UK? I thought 12 months was the legal
standard for most consumer goods in the UK?
